Instant Shaman – Paonia, Colorado
I live in Paonia, Colorado where instant, plastic shamans grow as abundantly from the trees as all the cherries, apricots, apples, pears and peaches that flood this valley. Plastic shamans are individuals who are attempting to pass themselves off as shamans, holy people, or other traditional spiritual leaders, but who have no genuine connection to the traditions or cultures they claim to represent.
A while back, I found this note blowing through my front yard. Instead of simply writing, “Please knock,” one of Paonia’s instant shamans had written, “Do NOT enter unless you were invited by speaking with the sacred space-keeper and obtaining permission in this moment.” It cracked me up so hard that I had to make a painting from it. The flowery language. Ha!
This 18″ x 18″ painting/collage on paper is currently framed in black with no matting. To help you envision it in your space, I’ve included some samples photos of it in different frames, with a white mat. I also included a photo of it unframed, next to my foot (!) for size reference.
If you would rather have this unframed, please let me know, and arrangements can be made.
This painting currently hangs at Horse Cow 57 gallery at 116 3rd St., Paonia, CO 81428. Contact me to see it in person.
