Sat, I’m going along having an ok time at a very overcrowded ski resort, Cataloochee.
When WHAM!
I went down. In fact, I didn’t even know what happened at first. I wasn’t even sure if I had been briefly knocked unconscious. Hmm. like oww?

Anyhows, once my brain stopped ringing, I discovered that I had been knocked down by a very out of control beginner skier who was flailing down the advanced slope. She hit me from behind, I think I sat on her as we fell, my head went to the ground (WHACK!). Her skis/poles went in opposite directions as she slid about 20 feet on her rear. The skier was not hurt and nicely enough asked if I was hurt.

Thankfully, I was wearing a helmet which now shows signs of an impact. I have become a convert to helmet and wrist guards as they have come in handy a couple of times (generally when I am doing something stupid –i.e., jumping a night!)

This is the second time in a month I’ve been hit by a skier at this resort. The first time was a kid who slid into me (he was moving and slid into the back of me.) which kind of knocked the wind out of me. It didn’t hurt much thankfully.

Honestly, I have been hit more this year than in all of previous years combined. What’s up with that?

To be honest, I blame the ski resort. Cataloochee Ski Resort is too crowded these days. There are too many people everywhere. Too many people on the slopes, the lift lines are too long, the lodge is packed with folks. Parking? Please. The nearest available parking is at least a mile away. I actually saw folks blocking entrances at the lodge… they were sitting on the floor in front of the doors eating lunch. Even worse, there were 3 girls sitting on the benches in the bathroom eating lunch. Eeeeew.

If I want to be part of a big traffic jam, why gosh, I can just go sit on 285 in Atlanta at rush hour.

It’s sad because Cataloochee Ski Resort used to be one of my favorites… but not anymore.
